API Reference

Written by lp9 api. The built-in classes come from the one table the compiler reads to type a send and the runtime reads to perform one, so what is listed here is what the language answers. The standard library, written in LP-9, is read with LP-9's own parser.

Types are written the way the table writes them. self is the receiver's own type; elem is the element type of an Array, Maybe or Future; key and val are a Dict's; a and b stand for anything. A method of the library is listed without types, because the types it has are the ones inference gives it where it is used.

Object is every receiver, Class is any class object, and Instance is an instance of a class the program declared; none of the three can be written down by a program.

Forms

These are sends the table cannot hold, because what they answer is not decided by the receiver's type and the selector alone. Each is checked where it is written.

• C fields: { ... } -- the argument is a record, which is not a value
• x copyWith: { ... } -- the same, and it answers the receiver's own class
• Dict from: { ... } -- the same; the record becomes the pairs
• Actor spawn: x -- answers Actor[class of the argument]
• Actor spawn: x onDomain: n -- the same, on the domain asked for
• (x : P) -- says which reading is meant: x's class claims protocol P, or x is a P
• Maybe some: x / Maybe none -- answers Maybe[type of the argument]
• Paint child: a -- the region an actor draws; answers Paint
